Buy For Fun Not For Value
3 of 3 found this helpful 1lb of wheat cents is roughly equivalent of 3 rolls (~150 coins). Face value of this lot is approx 1.50, and melt value (copper) of 1lb of pre-1982 pennies is roughly 3.20 (as of Feb 2018).
The bags are highlighted in the title/description here, but they're just bank deposit bags that the pennies have been dropped into and then sealed. NOT bagged by a bank.
My bag contained mostly 40s/50s wheats, with a few earlier but very worn wheats. Many were in cull condition but with readable dates. There were only wheat cents in here, I did not find any Indian cents or other kinds of cents at all.
The value of the coins is much lower than the price (i got my bag for around 20) paid, so I would NOT recommend this to collectors who are looking for high grade coins or looking to buy for value.
I had fun sorting through the coins though, so I DO recommend this to people who don't mind paying for the entertainment value of opening and sorting these. I DO recommend this to family/friend/teacher who want to introduce kids to coins without a steep investment. I also DO recommend this to someone who's just starting a wheat collection and wants a quick way to get a bunch of wheats in an album.
So in conclusion, buy these for fun times, avoid these if you're looking for value or hoping for hidden gems.
