Carlson's Guide to Lansdcape Painting, JF Carlson
Excellent painters reference book, use it as a text book. I tended to underline about one third of the book for future reference. Highly recommended. Materials list is out dated due to the age of the book, but a great read on every other subject in painting. A bit hard to read due to vocabulary changes in our culture. Maybe we should change back! Best analynical book on understanding how to see and how to paint I have ever read. Outstanding. So good in fact, this is my second copy to be given as a gift. Many excellent, well known painters mention it in their DVD's and books as wonderful reference and inspiration.

Wonderful book, well worth the read.
A very well written book, historical and filled with information, some of which could be right out of current events. People haven't changed all that much in over 100 years and the trend seems to continue. From my research, the book Black Diamonds, seems to be quite factual, though disheartening given its similarity to our times. I recommend it as a good read and a learning experience.
