Stanley Stud Finder Wall Wire Scanner Cable Detector Live Test Metal Sensor

OK for stud walls rubbish for electric cables.

Easily finds timber in studded wall. Ideal if that is what you want. Does not work on tiled walls. Can not rely on it to find electric cables in walls. Even when you know there is a cable, it starts detecting it about a foot either side. Sometimes detects a cable as a stud, not good when looking for somewhere to drill. Sometimes detects electric cable when there is none. To be fair, the instruction manual makes it clear about the poor performance with electric cables, but that information is not available before you buy.

Does exactly what is claimed

Easier to solder than a surface mount device. Produced more output than a diode on my crystal set. This allowed me to reduce the size of my indoor square loop antenna from 4 foot to 3 foot per side. Good instructions on how to use it.
