Helped start True Crime interest; but somewhat dated and plodding.
This was a bit of nostalgia for me. Saw it as a teen on TV. It is the kind of film that indoctrinated me into the true crime interest so many have today. Having not seen it in decades, (SPOILER ALERT) I was struck by it's plodding investigation without a payoff in the sense that we never see the crimes really, not when they happen and not when the star witness recalls the crimes. We see a couple of flashes for seconds. I am guessing that only 7 years or so after the crime, it was still somewhat raw and maybe the TV sensors would not let the violence be shown on the tube. Still, it has some creepy moments for sure and I think the actors and director did a fine job. When I first saw it as teen, I was like: "Wow!" I think people who have never seen it before might now say it was a bit boring, especially at a long running time because it was a two part TV movie/miniseries originally. Still, I am happy with the film overall.
