Recommended if Radeon GPU is working.

I would recommend this laptop if you are fortunate to get one with a working gpu. Many of these suffer from Radeongate issues where the gpu becomes nonfunctional. Even though there are ways around this by bypassing the Radeon gpu and just using the intel gpu instead, there are other laptops which can be purchased without this issue. Its a laptop which runs Snow Leopard (and PowerPC apps and games with Rosetta ) al the way to at least Sonoma via OCLP..

Good card immune to price hike these days (early 2021)

I bought this card as I couldn’t afford the ridiculously priced modern GPUs these days. Even though the card is a few years old it still holds up today as long as you are willing to sacrifice quality and/or resolution. For modern games it will have to be dialed back however this card was a powerhouse back then , so if you have older titles to play, this card may serve that purpose (at least until whenever prices go down on modern cards). Another advantage of this card is that it’s Mac flashable . You can flash it with an efi bios for Mac and use it with a fully working boot screen . It’s one of the few cards Metal capable which means it will run fine on Mac OS Mojave and current . The card can be overclocked to the Ghz version as well without issues and added performance. One negative other than not able to play modern games at high resolution quality settings is that it’s a bit loud when it heats up. This seems to be due to the blower style design.
