Later Artie, always great
A later period effort from the "other" consummate clarinetist of the Swing Era, it is well worth your time if you are an Artie Shaw fan. Those looking for basic Shaw, however, should first collect his prewar material on Victor. The string arrangement is somewhat disconnected from the "jazz" portion of this material, but Shaw's playing, as always, is perfection.

Prime Swing Era Krupa
How can I write an unbiased review of this sort of material? It's Gene's big band, in it's prime. They have great musicians, and they play with compelling enthusiasm. This was the band with Roy Eldridge's trumpet, and Anita O'Day's vocals. Columbia's sound was great in this period. Clean 78's have no overprocessing as the 33RPM and digital releases might. Just fall in with the pack and dig the shellac!
