    Elgato 10GAM9901 Video Capture Device
    Aug 29, 2020
Not quite as good as expected
With the Cam Link widely considered the standard and retailing for $120-150 these days, I was expecting optimum performance. I bought my Cam Link to compare against a $12-15 generic cheap HDMI capture card. Surprise! Although Cam Link performed better in color accuracy and overall resolution (no surprise!), it had worse lag. For 10x the price, I’d say the Cam Link turned out to be only a marginal improvement for my use case (Zoom & no need for high res). So consider your needs, use case, and budget. YMMV. P.S. Or if you have Apple devices, consider shelling $40/yr for the recently released (July 2020) Camo app by Reincubate. A free watermarked version is also available. That has been the only solution I found so far which has no lag (works with your iPhone’s cameras).

HDMI to USB 2.0 Video Capture Card 1080P HD Recorder Game Video Live Streaming

    Budget card
For the amazing low price ($12-15) you get a functional capture card. It seems UVC plug n play with no issues in Zoom. Solid feeling build - use an extension if you don’t want to weigh down your USB port. Now there are compromises with video quality and color (mine has a reddish cast). There is slight lag delay (incidentally, a bit less than with Elgato’s Cam Link). But if you don’t need accurate colors, high quality or speed... for the price it’s function at a fraction of the cost of the standard Elgato Cam Link. About a tenth of cost and certainly more than a tenth of the function. So consider your needs carefully, and consider this as a cheap extra/backup.
