Perfect Pinot Noir Glassware
1 of 1 found this helpful This appropriately sized glass is designed for a large surface area to promote 'breathing'. The tapered lip concentrates the nose and enhances the taste/smell. Furthermore, it is a very good value- great design at a reasonable price point.

Fine Wine Deserves Fine Glassware Like This
This offering in the Reidel Vinum series is a good value in crystal glassware which is designed specifically for certain grape/wine varietals. These are crafted for California and Bordeaux type varietals that are predominately Cab Sauvignon and/or Merlot. The bowl is generous and you might be inclined to fill 'er up, but the fill level depicted is actually appropriate, around 6 oz... OK maybe 7 oz. This leaves adequate room for swirling to help aerate the juice. The diameter of the rim allows most noses access to the bowl- afterall, smelling is a big part of tasting. I think this glass compliments the experience of drinking the wines it is designed for.
These stems are machine made and they are considerably less expensive than the hand-blown stems that Reidel also makes, but I don't think that you could tell any difference in the tasting experience between the two. One word of warning- handle these with care. The stems are long and thin- elegant to behold, but somewhat fragile. I recommend hand washing the glasses rather than putting them in the dishwasher- they can stand up to automatic washers, but they water jets may knock them over resulting in chips or breaks. Cheers!

XL Stems are Distractingly Large
0 of 1 found this helpful If you are buying Riedel stemware, wine is probably pretty important to you and if so, then how you serve it is also probably important to you. I find these stems way too large- larger than you probably would imagine even if you reviewed the size specs before purchasing them. A standard pour (5 oz) looks like a little puddle in the bottom of one of these glasses. The wine doesn't taste any different in these compared to other Cab style stems, but to me the large size detracts from the presentation. However if you are in the "bigger is bette"r camp, you can trust that their quality lives up to the reputation of the Riedel name.
