    1998 Subaru Foresters
If you're willing to fix the head gasket problems with the Phase 1, DOHC 2.5 L engines Subaru put in these older Foresters you can end up with a great little vehicle. Bought a 98 for my daughter. Waited til I got a good deal on one because I knew that I would have to invest another $900 - $1,400 to have the head gaskets replaced and possibly have the heads milled. The overall quality of the build of the '98 seems better than our '03 Forester. The Forester handles great, gets through the snow great (we get 250" in our area) and the gas mileage isn't too bad for the type of performace you get from it. My lower ratings on reliability and Quality are due to the problems that Subaru had with the 2.5l engines. Once rebuilt properly they seem to go well. I did have a shop fix my son's Outback with similar engine and problem, they apparently did not check the heads thoroughly and it developed an oil leak which my son didn't check and burned out that motor. So if you get a Subaru in the '97 - '99 vintage with the 2.5L plan to have some major engine work done.

Powerful smaller format sho vac gets the job done.
I wanted a relatively powerful shop vac but not overly huge. This vac delivers. It cleans up the ash and junk around the wood stove quickly. It is small enough to carry up to the garage to vacuum out the car. Has powerful enough suction to accomplish both jobs efficiently. Some say it is loud. Compared to my old Sears 16 gallon it is not. But then again it is a shop style vaccuum it isn't going to be something you can carry a conversation while it is running.

    Quiet and Close
Replaced the one I have had since 1975. I know it won't last that long, but does a good job on my facial hair and is surprisingly quiet.
