Found leaky battery in the unit; removed and cleaned battery contact. Unit works but is fussy. It seems to work when positioned properly on the tank

Found leaky battery in the unit; removed and cleaned battery contact. Unit works but is fussy. It seems to work when positioned properly on the tank, however, when programming it and operating the drum mechanism I have had it signal low battery and lose memory. Long-term usage will tell if this unit has come to me as problematic or not. It's used, what can I say? Vendors, please pull batteries out of items before shipping them.
