1914 & 1925 Wizard of Oz movies, silent, black & white
Did you know there were Wizard of Oz movies made in 1914 and 1925? Most people don't! This one DVD containing the 4 original Oz movies is a must-have if you are a big Oz fan. As soon as I read about it, I bought it. These 4 movies are from the silent movie era, in black & white, with a music background. They are nothing like the 1939 MGM movie classic. There are only a few similarities to the 1939 movie. These movies are very different from that beloved motion picture. They are very, very creative when you consider when they were made. From the costumes to the special effects. They are somewhat funny in places, and somewhat creepy and odd in others, but you must see them to get a different understanding and perspective of the world of L. Frank Baum's many Oz books. The three 1914 movies on the DVD were created by Baum himself. The one 1925 movie was made after he died, and it stars Oliver Hardy as the Tin Man. This DVD really opened-up my knowledge of the various stories of Oz. The DVD may be a copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy, but the quality is fine. However, in 1 or 2 places it seems like a scene, or part of a scene is missing, and I'm not sure if that's from the original movies' editing, or if they've been lost over time with duplication copies being made. In any case, you still get the idea as long as you keep-in-mind these are very early motion pictures. I highly recommend it.

The original Oz book for every fan of the 1939 movie classic!
Excellent for the true Wizard of Oz 1939 movie fan! This is a re-print of the original Wizard of Oz book by L. Frank Baum, released in 1900. Including some colorful pages of the original book's artwork. Even as a re-print, this 1960 edition is itself over 50 years old. Baum wrote something like 13 more books after this one. I get the impression the 1939 classic movie is based mostly on this book. (Although I haven't read the other 13 books yet, I am familiar with their titles. And I have seen the 1914 and 1925 silent movies based on a few of the other books.) Back to this book: Although it is similar to the classic 1939 movie, at least in the basic story and most characters, the book has many characters and situations which are not in the movie. Some of them very weird and/or scary. And, not surprisingly, the 1939 movie has some additions and changes in the film which are not in the book. A very interesting, delightful, and easy read. At the very least, you get to know the differences between the original book and the 1939 movie. Overall, it gives you a true feeling for the original world of Oz, and Baum's, and that era's, writing style. A note: the cover page with the lion wearing glasses was not the cover page of the book I received. There were many editions made of this book, so the 1960 edition, at least the one I bought on eBay, had a different cover. It's cover has the main characters on it. But that's OK. It was very inexpensive and the book is in excellent condition. It's what's inside that counts.
Casio fx-9750GII Graphing Calculator, Yellow RC

Casio calculators are better than Texas Instruments calculators.
Casio's graphing calculators are much easier to use, have more advanced features, and they are much less expensive than Texas Instruments calculators. About half the price. In general, newer technology for products can mean less cost for the customer. I've discovered Casio's calculators have more advanced technology and cost less than TI calcs. More schools should know about this.
