Not so hot game but worth it for the code cards if you get it cheap enough.
We bought Spectrobes 2 at a local used vinyl/cd/dvd/games etc. store and my
oldest son (he’s 9) fell madly in love with it. Pokemon and Minecraft fell by the wayside until he had beaten it. Once he got to the end of the game it gave him the option to use the code
cards from the original Spectrobes to enhance his army of beasties. As a reward for getting an A on a book report I bought him the original Spectrobes from alexram05 (shameless plug alert: great prices and a truly great individual to deal with, he’s had 100% positive feedback for 7 years). Unfortunately, although he was thrilled with the fact that everything came sealed in its original plastic, he got frustrated with the games controls and how it handled splitting the play field between the two screens of his DSi XL. He’s spent some time with it but nowhere near as much as with the second Spectrobes. Things may have been different if he had played the first before the second but that is just speculation on my part. All in all it was still a good buy if only for the fact that he now has the cards to use with the version that he prefers.

Tough, easy to use and a great value.
I bought two of these so that my son’s could chronicle their adventures on our vacation to Florida. Being that they’re 10 and 12 I wanted to get them something tough that took good pictures but not something too expensive because, after all, they're kids. I shied away from the Go Pros and Go Pro clones as I knew that they were going to be mostly taking stills. Of all of the waterproof cameras that I found in my price range (around $100) the FinePix had the highest resolution (16MP) as well as the most positive reviews. The first thing my sons did with them was throw them in the pool. Not only did they survive their initial 2+ hour ordeal in a saltwater pool replete with continual dunkings and being skipped across the surface of the water while recording they took some really great photos and videos. They are truly amazing cameras especially considering you can get them for $150 new or $80 - $90 refurbished. I bought two that were refurbished and the only thing that mildly disappointed me was that I could not get an accidental damage extended warranty from SquareTrade on an “open box” or used item.

Fun for the kids
My sons (10 and 12) are budding chefs so they thought this was great. It’s good fuel for their imaginations and if I get a few good dinners out of it that’s just icing on the cake. It’s not as comprehensive as a normal cookbook but it is a good tool for them to explore the world of food and develop practical kitchen skills. They’re also far more interested in trying new things when it’s their idea. In your face, chicken fingers.
