Catalinbread Formula No. 5 Fender Tweed Amp Overdrive

Formula 5 Great Tweed Effect
Provides the right amount of gain and saturation to get close to an old 5B3 circuit. Real Tweed tones flowing through this unit. You'd be hard-pressed to do a blind-test and choose correctly which is the amp, and which is the pedal - its that good. Find it helps the strat bite into notes and thickens the tone significantly. Don't go here if you want transparent tone. Do go here if you want a reasonable Tweed tone when access to the originals is becoming too costly and difficult to obtain.

Sweet Gain, Non-Coloring Boost
The MKII is perfect for a blues or rock lead tone that has bite, a little crunch, but still allows the natural tone of the guitar to shine through. It fills out the notes, deepens the punch and sustains and allows you to stand out. Best used on clean channel. I play a strat and it is easy to dial in level for your rig although I would recommend NOT setting the boost above 10 o'clock or the gain above 11 o'clock. I get plenty of great tone in that range. While this is an older pedal, Carl Martin's combination of drive and boost is fairly unique...and very tone worthy. On my board it is not a leave on all the time pedal...but when I want that extra edge, it is perfect. If you have a tube amp, it will take it over the edge a little harder, and if you play through a circuit board, up the gain to about 12 or 1, and you will achieve the same feel and vibe. These pedals are becoming rarer as players that have them don't give them up. Great little pedal. Only downside...it is hardwired.

Simple, Functional Features
Using the footswitch with my Super Champ XD to change channels and engage the units on-baord effects. This small amp covers so much sonic territory, and the accompanying footswitch provides easy access to make the amp shine. Great little tool.
