A Place For Winter, Paul Tiulana’s Story
For anyone who wants to truly gain a better understanding of real life as it was lived during the first half of the 20th Century and into the mid Century by the Eskimo people of King Island, Alaska in the Bering Sea off coast of of Northwest Alaska and the very personal story of one amazing man, Paul Tiulana, and his family, this is a book that will open your eyes, your mind, and your heart to a very unique and often misunderstood way of life. Paul Tiulana and his family are a resilient people with wisdom and courage not easily found in modern life. There are a number of wonderful black and white photos contained in this book that give the reader an extra glimpse into the world of the King Island people and their way of living, a way that has been lost to the modern world and stolen from the youth of these families today. I cannot say enough about this book to do it justice. If you have any interest in understanding the life and history of Alaska’s people of the Bering Sea, I highly recommend you invest the time in reading this beautifully written book, A Place For Winter, Paul Tiulana’s Story. You will find it to be enriching and enlightening and you will be very glad you took the time to read this story.
