Doubting the quality of the silver
The jump ring on this medal was not closed, so I put a new sterling silver one on it. I soldered it with silver solder used in jewelry making. The material in this medal reacted in a strange way to the heat and acid bath. Sterling silver does not react the same way. It is possible that there is some sort of coating on this medal that caused the reaction. At any rate, it was difficult to make this medal presentable again to give as a gift. I have experience working with sterling silver and working with this this was not a good experience.
