The Tiger Tank of headphones, and the most economical!
In my 40-year broadcasting career, I've bought and still own 35 pairs of headphones. It started with the Koss headcrushers in the early '70s, the old Radio Shack-20s for durability, Sennheisers, AKGs, Philips, Audio-Technicas and others. The Sony MDR-7506 headphones seem to me to be the more durable and realistically sounding set for voice work, and just plain music listening. The engineers have these headphones sounding tight in bass and midrange, with just enough high-end treble to not blow out the ears, but make for a great listening experience. I've worked with these Sonys for years, and have always wanted my own pair. Now that I have them, I've practically retired all of the others, including my beloved Sennheiser HD-414s that I've owned since 1976! By the way, my iPod sounds great with them, too.

    TransAmerica
Finally, a motion picture that captures the inner feelings of a transgendered person and the lives that change with the transformation. Felicity Huffman captured the essence of the male-to-female crossover with charm, elegance and respect. Not a cheap shot at the transgendered populace, TransAmerica also shows, in a time-compressed manner, the change that family sometimes goes through, once the "secret" is out. We see the social engendered transformation to the end of the film. It deserved more than just a handful of award nominations last year (2008). Every family who has a transgendered person within should see this movie, then embrace that person for the courage to make the transition, rather than suffer in silence and encumber further silent sadness.

Steve Austin's Stone Cold Metal-Various Artists CDAlbum
When a TV/Sports entertainment character like Stone Cold Steve Austin captures the essence of the blue collar worker who has taken just about enough abuse from his white collar boss at work (Vince McMahon-Chairman, WWE), what sort of soundtrack would you design for this man to play in his truck when he goes to work at 8 and leaves at 5? This album is the quintessential commercial CD that should be playing while you watch some of his classic matches on DVD. "Steve Austin's Stone Cold Metal" is a wonderful collection of metal that should be played in the gym while you lift 300 pounds or do 200 crunches. My only disappontment to the whole lineup was the exclusion of the beerdrinking blues tune, "Bad to the Bone," from George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers, but since it is, after all, metal, not a bad collection. "God of Thunder" will keep you moving. The CD is also a nice collectible, if you can get the copy that has the 3D-effect for the cover and the CD inside cover. Congratulations to Steve Williams, aka Stone Cold Steve Austin, for becoming one of this year's (2009) WWE Hall of Fame members. I'll pop the top on a cold one when you get inducted!
