Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes-The Master Blackmailer
Full length feature starring Jeremy Brett as the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. The BBC Granada television series used the finest production values and shimmering camera work. A fine episode based on A.C. Doyle's story Charles Augustus Milverton. Surprise ending I won't spoil. Holmes toys with a housemaid while in disguise and perhaps falls in love. Elegant costumery throughout. Robert Hardy plays the blackmailer, whom BBC fans may remember as Siegfried Farnon of All Creatures Great and Small. Brett is arguably the best Holmes representation ever, so involved with the character was he that he found himself dreaming of 'Holmes' and would peruse the script while other cast members took a break off the set. Soundtrack includes Beau Soir (uncredited) by Claude Debussy. Worth watching.

Atmospheric, thoughtful and well played.
First off, the seller was excellent. New, unopened as described, Region 1 DVD, and played perfectly.
This review is for the Maigret show on MHz Network in general. Set 2 is incidental. See sets 1, 3, and 4 for more titles, 2012 releases. If you want specific criticism of episodes, go to IMDb.
I first saw this version of Maigret by accident on MHz Network. If you have no knowledge of Bruno Cremer, Maigret or MHz Network you should get acquainted. I bought this set to see the shows again. Already have Set #1.
These are faithful retellings of the Georges Simenon mystery novels, in French with English subtitles. I have a rudimentary knowledge of French so it was fun to listen closely to what was said versus the translation. Not always the same! Not censored as the telecast shows are, so you get the full impact of the French derogations. The interior sets, countryside and harborside scenery are delicious. The stories themselves are seemingly secondary to the characters and locations. It may be as a foreign viewer I expect a different emphasis. Yet in the end the mystery is resolved, often quite contrary to the obvious solution. Bruno Cremer is a thoughtful and sympathetic investigator, actually Chief Superintendant or Commissaire. Not sure if divisionnaire or principal (now abolished). As such he gains respect among the citizenry, has a taste for white wine, and nearly always stops in a bistro or cafe where various characters hang out, clearly townfolk who happen to get hired as extras. To me this only adds to the local charm of these shows. Set in what is post WWII France, say 1950-58, and the Peugots and Renaults are classique. Running times can be a little long, but stick through to the end for a satisfying adventure.

Get A Grip
Whether it's slippery slick from the heat of the lights or just a bad hand cramp, we all need a little help now and then holding on to the pick. The rubber grip really does the job, and a nice gauge on the pick itself makes a good deal. Frankly, I like it and will buy more after 1) they sprout legs and run off or 2) I drop them into oblivion onstage. DO NOT lend them to the guy sitting in!
