Navigon 2100 GPS Navigator Car GPS Receiver
I've seen mixed reviews about this GPS system. After a few months with it I like it a LOT and think it's better value than most high priced systems. I don't want a GPS that can play MP3s, I've got an iPhone for that, I just want it to do a good job getting me from A to B, and back. What I like about the Navigon 2100 is that it finds the satellites quickly, the interface graphics look good, unlike some from TomTom and other well knowns. The spoken directions are good with just the occasional mispronunciation which for me is no big deal. What I find very good is that the spoken directions are at just the right time unlike another unit I had which was vague when it came to when exactly to turn when you had a complicated route. The POIs are very comprehensive right down to the non-big brand restaurants. I particularly like the so-called "Reality View" when it comes to freeway interchanges, which leave you in no doubt which lanes you should be in. The advance warning of traffic problems ahead and the offer to reroute surprised me as I had forgotten about it when it first warned me. It also has an interface for surrounding traffic problems. In Los Angeles that's a BIG plus. The only dislike for me is when you're just driving and its on, is that the cross street names sometimes are not visible unless you zoom out a little from the default view. It is better though if you're not in 3D mode. Overall, I think this unit is excellent value for money, particularly if you want a GPS unit to be a GPS unit and not a ghetto boom box, or other weird use that some other units offer. You can get them around $150 new, so my recommendation is a good to very good buy.

I found the Denon AVR so good I bought two.
This is the second Denon I've bought. This was for another room. Sound quality can be a subjective thing but to my ears this is an excellent unit. I do like the room tuning feature with a microphone on a long wire you configure the unit to suit the listening environment. I never realized the benefits a dedicated AVR unit can bring to the media experience until I bought one, or in this case, two.

Does well, what it is intended to do.
None of these little box things does everything. This Apple TV does everything well for what it is designed. My Roku does other things. The Boxee does other things as well. It'd be so cool if aTV Flash from FireCore got their stuff together and finished their update so that, once again, this Apple device does everything.
