Lightweight and good built quality but...
2 of 3 found this helpful My previous experience with macro lenses is very limited (only used a Nikkon 40mm f2.8 before). What I found with this Tamron lens is that the effective aperture of the lens changes according to the focal length. You cannot use f 2.8 at macro distances (0.29 m for instance) due to "bellows effect". Apparently this happens to other lens too. But I was expecting to be able to use 2.8 to closer distances and it was a surprise this for me. Probably part of my lack of research plus the description of the product not mentioning the fact :(
Overall I am not disappointed but I still have to learn to get advantage of this lens. As this does not have VC ( vibration compensation) system this lens is more suited for use with tripod but I expect that in days with good light I’ll be able to handle decent sharp shots handheld at decent shutter speeds ( at least 1/60 or so). It is a sharp lens in general and I have just found that apparently the color rendition is little bit brighter than I expected. I still have to look into this since I just received the lens yesterday and I haven’t downloaded the tests to my PC.
4.0 starts, great value product.

It does the job.
It is very squeaky or noisy and presents some defects on finishing ( some rough edges). It does the job otherwise.

It fits the Nikon cameras but....
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought it for a helios 58/2 44M. It felt flimsy when coupled to a d5500 , and more less firm in a D750. The main issue is that the optical element of the adapter causes a terrible degradation of the image —it gives a hazy look, ruining the sharpness of the image. I would not recommend this item unless you’re willing to remove the optical element and use the ring alone (loosing the ability to focus to infinity), which is of course pointless, there are other adapter without optical element. First picture is with the lens alone, the second using the adapter.
