A Good Value if You have DCC Experience
I am returning to Model Railroading after a 45+ year vacation. While I was gone DCC was created and has become a normal part of the hobby. I realize that I've "missed" the informal training that most users have received in the basics of the technology. I'm sure that influences my opinions.
Because of a long career in electronics I find that the quality of the PC board and its components are impressive. The instruction sheets are thorough and I expect more veteran users will be well satisfied. For a newbie I found some of the information confusing. As an example the instructions emphasize that you can't "run trains" on the programming track. What I didn't understand is that none of the locomotive features will operate on the programming track. I am familiar with the operation of "real" locomotives and on those the headlights, marker lights, cab lights, bell and ditch lights operate even when the locomotive is stationery. It took a while for me to realize that none of the modules features operate on the programming track. To check items like ditch lights you have to actually run the locomotive. Now I know...
A second point is just a nuisance. The DH165A0 remembers its address when it is powered off. The DCS 52 does not remember the last locomotive it was controlling when it is shut down. When the controller restarts it has to "steal" a locomotive to acquire it. Fortunately the controller prompts you the take that action but it is annoying to have to repeat the process a number of times.
All in all I think the module is a good value.

Good Value with the Right Features
Versatile device that promises to be very valuable for in-circuit testing and troubleshooting. Quality construction - arrived very well packed and in excellent condition.
