The Uncanny X-Men #256 (Dec 1989, Marvel) 1st New Psylocke Jim Lee Art (C4384)
Mar 16, 2016
The first appearance people don't know they want... yet.
UXM 256 is the first time Psylocke appears in the form we know her today. It’s the earliest appearance of the character even remotely resembling what we’ll see on screen in the new X-Men film. Issues 256-258 are pretty much the origin of this version of the character, all three have Jim Lee art. In all reality, 256 doesn’t have any higher or lower print run than any other earlier issues around that same year. Most modern speculators don’t realize that Jim Lee wasn’t the legendary Jim Lee in 1989. Uncanny X-Men 256 is only the second time Jim Lee worked on interiors for Uncanny X-Men. He had done some covers, but 256-258 was really the start of the Jim Lee we know today. This is probably one of my all time favorite comics stories and easily in my top 5. Solid artwork and in my opinion completely under valued. When the new X-men movie comes out with Psylocke appearing in it, this is going to be a book people will want.
