Don't really know

Replaced the gas cap and the "Gas cap loose" message cleared. One week later it returned. I don't know yet whether I have a different problem (probable), or if the gas cap seal didn't hold up. I haven't checked the purge canister or the canister vent valve yet. It is however a direct replacement part as advertised. If a replacement was needed for a lost gas cap I would certainly recommend it as an inexpensive first choice replacement.
