Enjoyed it , labored reading it, but wouldn't share it with an unbeliever
I read an article online that referenced this "little" book as a source to give to a seeker, or unbeliever about Christianity.
Now, having read it, there are some wonderful insights and depths drawn about the nature of man and really recognizing specifically and personally the root of our fallen nature. It was written during wartime, when the world is questioning how man can be so evil and when death is fresh on peoples minds. Specifically Dr. Lloyd Jones shows that contrary to popular belief, man is not progressing from originally base and sinful to enlightened and spiritual as a culture. He illustrates that the bible accurately depicts man as being originally good or very good and then falling and repeating a vicious cycle of falling over and over again. He asks the reader to think about how we didn't learn from WW1 and quickly are back into WW2. I loved the intimate large-scale wartime perspective because in my generation we haven't faced anything like it and take so much for granted. He says it all much better than I do!
Overall, I enjoyed the book but make no mistake about it...I would never (unless prompted by the Spirit) NEVER give this book to an unbeliever/seeker. The first two chapters are a critique of the church with lots of churchy language. Then -for me- it's laborious reading throughout the rest of the book. It might be "little" in page numbers but it required slow, thoughtful, repeating-the-paragraph reading to get what he was saying...just me perhaps!
Hope this review helps! Blessings to you!

Reason for the Season!
GREAT Christian movie that transports you to the time of Christ’s birth. The actors and cinematography are all top notch. Some dialogue and circumstances fill in the biblical account based on how the author imagined it would happen, but the basic biblical account and meaning jumps out and takes center stage! There is only one plot issue that I question but it does not impact the overall message and true Spirit of the movie. God made flesh to dwell among us and save us from our sin. That’s the focus. Appropriate humor, and tenderness and awe from the characters. I watch this movie in July as well as December!! One of my all time favorites!!
