Birds in Kansas: Volume I

Paperback.

This book has some good information in it as far as that goes but I have a problem with a book about identifying birds that has no color pictures. Other than that it has info about species and usual locations.

Small handy bird ID guide.

I like this book. Very handy and informative. Has nice color pictures which I think is essential for a bird book. It has one page descriptions of each bird listed and one page of pictures of each species along with their range in the state.

Very few pictures of birds, very few color pictures.

I didn't pay much for the book so I can't really complain. The problem for me is the content. I thought it would be more like a field guide and it's not. The first 30 pages have some color pictures after that none. The first 100 pages are mostly about birds such as Roadrunners, Snowy Owls, Woodpeckers, Outwitting Squirrels, Recycling for Backyard Birds, How to Choose Binoculars, Keeping Records, Suet Recipes and a few others. Page 105 to 113 New Bird Feeders, Foods, Houses and Roosts, Optics and accessories. 131- 210 Bird Feeders. 211-226 Birdfood. 227-264 Birdhouses. 265-272 Bird baths. 273-232 Optics.333-356 Books. 357-378 Accessories. Keep in mind that the above mentioned are all products from page 105 to 378, not how to articles or anything like that. To me the book is not very useful. I think the title Birders Bible is misleading. If you can get it for $4 or $5 W/free postage but I wouldn't pay more than that.
