Saved me $1,000
1 of 1 found this helpful Locals wanted $650 for the board and $350 to install and test it. I installed it in 30 mins and it has worked perfectly ever since. Thanks!

SONY used to stand for quality, but not anymore
7 of 15 found this helpful I bought this TV at Circuit City in 2001, just five years ago. Since then it has stopped working three times. The symptoms are always the same - it powers up and the sound works, but no picture. Last time it was a new high voltage transformer.
Like so many things in consumer electronics these days, when it works, it works great. Great picture, plenty of brightness, excellent contrast. However, when it stops working, it's just a big piece of junk.
Now for the gotcha - this TV weighs almost 300 lbs and you have to take it to the repair facility for them to repair it. They will not accept just the chassis. Or, they will come to your house to 'look at it' for $185, no promises.
I just found out there is a three week backlog just to look at this TV from the only authorized repair center in the ninth largest city in the US.
I had a SONY Trinitron TV that worked fine until the day it died for 12 years. I have a SONY Walkman that I bought almost 20 years ago that still works. But this is it for me. Over $2,000 for a TV set that doesn't even last for 5 years.
I'll never buy SONY again.
