vintage 5200 joystick alleviates the notorious issues
For most games, this joystick fixes all the issues the bundled 5200 controller had. Some of the 5200's issues were overblown, but not for all. This Wico stick is a great find.

great 5200 game that oddly requires both controllers
Very fun game! I like the plastic holster that cradles both 5200 joysticks. I'd probably open up and clean the potentiometer analog controls for the smoothest playing experience, but my Atari sticks are 35 years old and third party sticks (e.g. Wico) are smoother, but big and unwieldy. Why didn't Atari use the keypad for firing direction instead?? But it can be fun, especially after the learning curve with using both sticks.

useful replacement despite its issues
It's a great replacement if you open your 5200 controller to clean the contacts and accidentally overly-bend/break the flex contacts as a result, but it's a tedious and technical nightmare to replace. Atari was a trendsetter for the basic design. But the implementation needed another, what, $1.50 or so worth of materials per unit and and many issues might have been avoided.
