Ribbon sound for amazing price
This microphone performs just like other good ribbon mics. It is extremely quiet, without pre-amp "fet noise". It has enough signal (some ribbons are much "colder"...), but you will need to turn your input up. Like other ribbons, it has LOTS of proximity effect. You will want to use it with a "pop-stopper" windscreen. The proximity sounds wonderful, and you can control the thickness of vocals in a very natural sounding way. Really, it is up to how far away the windscreen is, so you can really add depth or "masculinity" just by moving the screen. ...or, for that matter, move the mic back for less boom-y-ness. It really works well and naturally.
I noticed right away it does not have the "cheap mic" distortion in the high frequencies. You can record very loud sound without that "scritchy" over-loud sounding affect. (It should do well with loud instruments, like brass. I haven't had that chance yet...)
All of this, for about $500 less than similar mics! I love it!

5 stars ain't enough!
I've worked with spectrum analyzers for years. Never thought I could own one! It is very easy to use. The automatic features are smart and don't hide things. Good battery life, on top of everything else.
