HP 14-x010nr 14in. Chromebook *Broken Screen
Sep 03, 2020
Light, quick, but YMMV
THE GOOD: This Chromebook (also known as the HP Chromebook 14 G3) is an excellent ARM processor Chromebook. It's super light and works very quickly. Logging in is easy and there is no fan to make any noise for cooling. The image is clear and pretty good for a 1366 x 768 screen. I can't stress how great it is not to worry about storage, or anti-virus, or even Windows licensing and updating. Webcam is superior to my Dell Chromebook (of the same year of manufacturing 2015) and so is the look and weightiness. Trackpad is very nice and so is the keyboard. Speakers worked really well and so did the mic test when testing on Skype. However, the mic does make the audio sound like you are in a hollow room. THE BAD: The Chromebook was purchased with a broken screen so it was sitting in some bin for an extended period of time. During this time, the battery completely drained and is not able to be recharged. The issue is that in my research, I have found a lot of people that have had this issue of the "battery icon disappearing" which leads me to believe there is a battery issues with this particular brand and model of Chromebook. I have had issues trying to get apps to install on it however but I'm chalking that up to user issue not the OS. I install apps through the play store and it says installed but never shows up. I cannot get my Samsung laser printer printing on this either. Seems it's a Samsung issue of not supporting PostScript or PCL but I'm not aware that there is a single laser printer manufactured that doesn't use these two languages for communication. THE UGLY: The notebook did come with a broken screen but it was easily replaced with a new one from Amazon for about $100 CAD. It also didn't come with a charger, but $25 CAD from Amazon fixed that.
