JBL Link Portable Smart Bluetooth Wireless Speaker Gray Factory Sealed Brand New
    Apr 13, 2021
JBL has lost me for life.
TL;DR: JBL (probably) pushed a firmware update to the speaker that removed the equalizer controls in the Google Home app. Without being able to tune the bass and treble, it sounds absolutely terrible for most music. JBL is pointing the finger at Google, Google is pointing back at JBL. The losers are every consumer who has purchased any JBL Link product of any type. This debacle has apparently been a thing since July of 2020, and makes me wish I'd never purchased this speaker. Want more details? Do a quick search on "JBL Link EQ" and you'll find a Google support thread titled, "Lost the Eq on my speaker? - Google Nest Community". You can also find a recap of the issue at "piunikaweb". Let me start by saying I'm a very technical person. I've been a software engineer for nearly 20 years, and have seen and done a lot when it comes to computing, tech, mobile, smart home, etc. I've been a beta tester for some of the worst code and products you've probably never heard of. All of that is to say, it takes a surprising amount of frustration / disappointment to get me to write a scathing review such as this one. For the first few days of owning this speaker, I liked it quite a bit. The initial setup was pretty much the same as any other cast-enabled device, and went smoothly. Once in my network, I played a few tracks, and immediately noticed that it sounded VERY bass heavy. (I'm a bassist and a lifelong tubist, I love bass, but there is a limit, and the default settings on this speaker surpassed it by far.) Luckily, the Google Home app had an EQ, so I popped in there, turned the bass down a few clicks, and then everything was great! Over the next few days, I used it while cooking, in the back yard for a BBQ, and even played some music while in the shower. I was quite pleased. Then, on maybe the 4th day of ownership, my wife was using it, and I noticed that it sounded really terrible. I assumed that maybe it was just her choice in music, but made a note to take a look later. The next day, I went to use it, and was immediately reminded of the bad sound. I went into the Home app to check the EQ settings, and they had disappeared! Specifically, the button in the app used to set EQ on every other cast device in the house no longer existed for this one. I don't take auto updates on my apps, so I'm 100% sure the Home app didn't get updated in that time. All I can figure is that, once connected to the internet, the speaker pulled in new firmware which specifically disabled the EQ within the app, thereby rendering it a bass-heavy paperweight. I started searching, and that's when I came across the Google support thread for this issue. Many replies included quotes from JBL support saying it was a Google Home app problem. Later in the thread, Google said that the EQ controls had been removed specifically at the request of JBL. A few posts of contradictory responses from JBL even indicated that JBL had removed the setting because they were concerned that changing the EQ could damage the speaker. Honestly, I don't care who is at fault. I have very little love for Google, but if I'm JBL, and my product has angered that many of my customers, it's up to ME to fix it. I can't rely on a third party (Google) to keep my customer base happy. So in the end, I'm holding JBL accountable, and they've sat on this for 9 months with no movement. In that time, they could have pursued any number of solutions. For one, they could have released their own 3rd party app to update the settings internal to the speaker. Another option might be offering their customers a way to downgrade the firmware and disable auto updates. The speaker is running a basic webserver to provide open source license info, so a third option could even be to include a web-based EQ control. That's just a few potential solutions off the top of my head. If they REALLY wanted to fix this, they would have. I've purchased various JBL products on and off over the years (including car stereo equipment, a 5.1 surround system, and some headphones), and have generally been pretty happy with them. That said, I will never buy anything from them again. I lost about $100 on this mess and count myself relatively lucky. Many others who invested in the JBL Link ecosystem have lost considerably more. Hopefully this review will help others avoid making that same mistake!
Weekly Pill Box Organizer Twice a Day 7 day organizer AMPM Case Medicine Storage
    Mar 03, 2022
Flimsy plastic ruins a potentially nice product.
TL;DR: This pill organizer might work in a pinch, but otherwise, just save your money and buy a better one. We take a lot of supplements, and this is far from our first pill organizer, but this one has been a real disappointment. The blue and white is attractive, but other than the color itself, the picture makes this item look way nicer than it actually is. Our main issue is with the build quality. The plastic is thin and flimsy - think home 3D printing plastic. As a result, the box sheers / warps / doesn't hold shape well, which leads to some compartments barely staying closed, while others practically require a broken fingernail to access. (Either condition could easily result in pills dropping or flying everywhere.) Adding insult to injury, brand new out of the package, some of the lettering on our lid was already distorted / scuffed. After fighting with the lid a few times, it's already in our donation pile literally having never seen a single pill; for $6, it's not worth returning nor the twice-daily frustration to try and make it work. We highly recommend finding a different product.
