The right way to do business
I purchased this board from SecondChanceIT so I could upgrade an HP z600 from the B3 version of the motherboard to the C2 version. This upgrade allows a couple of key advantages: the ability to run TWO X5675 (~3.4 GHz max) Xeon processors in the z600, and the ability to run server-grade buffered memory. Currently that memory is selling for $8 per 4GB module (shipped) NEW here on eBay. The Xeon processors are about $80 each NEW and an extra heatsink/fan is $40.
So, for less than $350 I've been able to revive a 2009-vintage power workstation that will compete with many current CAD workstations in DirectX applications like Autodesk Fusion 360. The form factor and overall design of the z600 have aged very well, and I appreciate the solidly over-built engineering of the system. This upgrade will likely get me through the next 3 years of work in my new business venture, and the pile of money saved can be directed to other priorities. This product was the key, and it's a huge score.
