great phone, problematic IOS

the good: the iphone SE has the legacy features i've grown accustomed to. a home button with fingerprint sensor. (not everyone loves face ID.) a headphone jack. (not everyone loves airpods.) small enough for one-handed operation. (not everyone loves big phones.) bezels are large enough that it can be clutched without touching the screen. (not everyone loves an all-screen phone.) the iphone SE seems to be the last model before iphones jumped the shark. the bad: version problems. this isn't a problem with the iphone SE per se, it's really a problem with IOS 12 and the way apple manages versions. the iphone SE comes with IOS 11 installed. whereas my "old iphone" is running IOS 12.1.1. it seems you can't restore from an IOS 12 device to an IOS 11 device. so the "quick start" with the iphone SE is a dead end. in order to restore, it seems i must update the iphone SE's OS to IOS 12. unfortunately it seems the only available version is the known-to-be-buggy IOS 12.1.3. so until a fixed version of IOS 12 comes along, i'm stuck on IOS 11 and unable to restore from my old iphone.
