Awesome value for three generations of PlayStation
8 of 9 found this helpful Original released PlayStation 3 console. Working in great condition. Compatible with the entire family of PlayStation One and PS2 games. Firmware at 3.55 for modders to tweak with (I am thinking of getting someone do this for me). And, all for under $300. Nothing is a better deal than this. The Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 can't even dream of such a huge game library. And online is still supported, and FREE, of all things. The PS3's XMB is one of the cleanest and easiest to use UI in any console.
The only thing going against this console is the original's hard drive space, at a paltry 60GB. Nothing much there, but easy to upgrade; just get a 2.5" 500GB SSD, format it to FAT32 for the PS3 to recognize, install, and go.
Another gripe that is against all PlayStation 3 consoles, is the atrocious update process. Every game, has to first download, and then install updates, one at a time. Especially infuriating when there are huge 4+GB of updates and the connection to the network drops for any random reason.
If anyone wants a PS3, they can definitely get it at half or even a third of the price, no problem. However, I feel that this release model PS3 is the perfect one for gamers with a huge library of PlayStation games of the past, and little shelf space for multiple consoles.

Good right now
Pretty decent gaming system on the go, considering its age. Plus, it has a huge homebrew community so if you're wanting to experiment with it then by all means go ahead.
