Plan B kit lens
5 of 5 found this helpful This is a full frame lens so can be used on FX or film cameras as well as crop sensor (DX) cam eras. Constriction is plastic (except for the drive) including the F-mount flange. This means it is not likely to fair well on a drop. It is, however, very light weight and images do seem to be sharp even when zoomed to 300 mm. If you use it on a Nikon DX camera the camera will crop the image to appear like that of a longer focal length by a factor of 1.5. While optically it is still a 70-300 mm lens the images will appear like a 105-450 mm on a DX camera. It is not exceptionally fast so figure on daylight use. No focus motor is built into the lens so your camera must have the internal focus motor (not available on many smaller body Nikon DX cameras). This lens was often included as the second lens in many older Nikon camera kits.

Better than aftermarket
The FORD parts seem to be a better quality than the aftermarket ones and are plated to avoid rust.

Good old school yet fully automatic film camera
1 of 1 found this helpful This is the last of the film cameras Nikon made for the amateur that hand all mechanical displays (knobs and dials rather than LCDs). The camera takes very good pictures in the fully automatic mode if you are either using the flash or have strong lighting. A draw back is that it does not give you any feedback as to what shutter speed or F-stop the camera has picked so you have no clue what your depth of field or motion freezing is happening in your picture. Focus is a little slow by today's standards and stinks in low light or if the mirror is dirty/fogged. It does make a fairly loud noise both focusing and advancing the film. It is a Nikon so quality of construction is fairly good. As I have researched, the latch on the film door is plastic and can be broken if not handled with care. The camera performs much the same as the Nikon N4004s and far better than the N4004. These can be purchased very inexpensively and the manual can be found on line. The N4004S manual can be downloaded from the support section of the Nikon website and ess applicable to the function of the N5005.
