Good intro to the 50mm lens range, But oh that focusing
I bought this knowing it was an intro lens. It takes great close-up portrait shots with a nice background blur (they call that bokeh). But the auto focus is not up to the level of the next lens in the 50mm line. If you are trying to capture say a two year old child on the move it'll be tough to auto focus. Not impossible, on manual, but still difficult as the focus ring seems like an afterthought. It is a beginners lens. But at the price it takes nice photos and if you only shoot close up and portrait on occasion is worth considering for around $100.
I bought it because it on average is 1/3 the price of the 1.4 USM by Canon and forget about the 1.2L 50MM at $1500-ish.

Works well
Great upgrade from my 8-year old Braun FreeGlider. Works well. No issues. The push up trimmer is on opposite side from power button so it takes some getting used to but minor complaint.
