Steller's Jays are finicky peanut gatherers.
I buy these unsalted peanuts for Steller's Jays (and occasionally crows) that come into my yard. I would like to see more double peanut shells than are typical in Hampton Farms large bags (5 pounds). The jays are pretty picky, preferring double shells to single and the bigger the peanut the better. When the jays see two peanuts on the ground close to each other they will pick up one and then the other seeming to compare the weights of the two peanuts, choosing the heavier or bigger peanuts.
