NOT OEM and damaged laptop battery
The charger is clearly an imitation Apple charger, not OEM, despite the Apple logo on it. But it "works" in that it does charge up a MacBook Pro. So even though I was pretty sure it wasn't "genuine", I kept it because an OEM charger from Apple is much more expensive, and my adult son seems to go through chargers somewhat quickly. But in 6 months of use, it has damaged the battery of the laptop. When I took the laptop to the computer repair shop, they said that the knock-off charger had damaged the laptop battery and caused it to swell up--the laptop base in not flat anymore. They showed me how you can tell the charger is not OEM because it is lighter than a genuine part since it does not have all the fancy components in it. Replacing the battery will cost about $350. So saving money on a cheaper charger was a "penny wise, pound foolish" choice that I regret.
