A young boy meets a strange man who sells magic cookies; potential cannibalism is thwarted.
This book is less than ideal for children as it has poor messages regarding strangers and drugs. It is an older book so the author probably didn't realize those issues. I wouldn't let my grandchildren read it.

It is a great primer
I don't know it is better that what I expected. It is a course book on anthropolgy and does a good job with explaining core concepts.
