The most affordable, full featured, modern Nikon film SLR available.
I just re-bought this camera, which I hadn't owned in a decade. I've got plenty of professional Nikon DSLR cameras and missed the old N80, which was my first Nikon back in the day. A nostalgia motivated purchase I admit, but that does not discount the real utility of this camera body. This camera has every practical feature of the F100 and F5, and a DSLR camera. You get full front and back command dials, a focus point selector, DOF preview, and real in-body AF; this gives this camera a form factor and feature set that is still in use today on Nikon's DSLR cameras. This camera works with all the feature of your brand new AF-S, G type lenses, and VR 1 lenses, you can't say that about a N90 or even an F4. It is extremely accurate with it's meter and is easier to shoot than most DSLR cameras, the lack of tech overload on it is very refreshing. It's SUPER quiet, more quiet than the specific quite modes of the D300s/D800/etc. It works with TTL on the SB600 which is also compatible with the iTTL in DSLR bodies, negating the need for a separate flash for your film and digital bodies. A few caveats to think about with the N80: 1) Exposure Compensation is only available in 1/2 stop increments, can be worked around but when you're used to counting three clicks a stop on the command dial you have to constantly remind yourself that it's only two clicks a stop on the N80 2) No metering on manual focus lenses, I only own one of these so it's not the biggest deal in the world, but is still a feature not included with this body 3) X-Sync, flash/shutter sync speed, it's only 125th. You can get around this in some ways with low ISO film, so this may not be as big of a deal as it can be with digital cameras that generally bottom out at ISO 100. 4) CR123 batteries. Yuck. They're expensive, about twelve dollars for a set of two. These do tend to last quite a while though, the camera is very efficient power wise. You can also get the battery grip that holds regular AA batteries. 5) You can't use infrared film. The N80 tracks the film movement with IR, so IR film is not going to work. In the end, if you want a film camera that has all of the modern features and necessities you're used to in digital bodies the N80 is for you.

    Know what you're buying
This is a video I/O card with really nice features and very tight integration into Final Cut Pro. You need the cables or breakout box for it to be useful. It can also be used in a DAW setup to give 8 channels of audio I/O. I gave it three stars because it's such a picky card. Depending on your machine and it's architecture you will need to refer to the manual and install it in the recommended slot. I also have LOTS of coreaudiod freezes while using this card. I found that it does not get along with other PCIe cards very well, or external firewire devices. You may have to move the card to other slots or not use it with other hardware in your machine altogether to get it to behave well. But, if you're making a purpose built machine for HD and 2K editing you should be able to get it under control.
