It seems kind of unnecessary until you have it.
Yeah, it's twice as much as other faucets, and it seems like an unnecessary feature. However, once you get used to it, you start to appreciate how little you have to touch the faucet. When your hands are full or covered in whatever mess you've created, you can still turn on the water without any hassle. I find myself turning the water off more often while washing dishes, which is good. It makes you feel like some kind of water wizard. It's also kind of fun watching people get thoroughly confused by it until you show them how it works.
As far as this particular brand and model, it seems very solid and well made and looks great in the kitchen. The sprayer is nice and forceful when you need it and everything just works very well. We haven't had it long enough to know if the batteries last 6 months as advertised, but we are planning on having an outlet installed below the sink to use an AC adapter anyway. It was super easy to install and we haven't had any issues so far.
Another fun thing is when you go to somebody else's house, you'll find yourself wanting to wave at their faucet until you realize you're not at home.
