Seasonal Joy
Sleigh Ride – Classic Christmas Favorites
A delightful mix of traditional seasonal and Christmas music, combining selections from the classics (Bach, Handel, Mozart, Tchaikovsky), easy listening such as Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, Herbert’s March of the Toys and Scott’s Toy Trumpet and tasteful arrangements of the most beloved Christmas Carols. This disc features great artists such as Ormandy, Robert Shaw, the Canadian Brass, Al Hirt, Placido Domingo and the Wiener Sangerknaben.
Both the sacred and the secular items are tastefully and appealingly presented maintaining throughout a sense of reverence, joy and warmth. In spite of the insert’s definition of Anderson’s Sleigh Ride as “new-fangled jazz”; there is none of the glitzy, secular trash that pervades seasonal collections.
This is the ultimate Christmas/Winter collection for those who joy in the season and have not lost sight of the meaning of Christmas.

Brilliant - up to a point
For: This movie is almost true to the original story by D. H. Lawrence which is one of pure horror graphically transcribed to the silver screen. The cast is led by an incredible John Howard Davies whose portrayal of the tormented young Paul is nothing short of brilliant. In my opinion, the black and white format enhances the stark, spin-chilling development of the plot. The other cast members are totally convincing in their roles. The story line belongs alongside "The Turn of the Screw" for its bleak terror.
Against: If only the Directors of the film had left off at the point at which D. H. Lawrence wrote "The End". Their apparent desire to tie up loose ends results in an "add-on" that is anticlimactic and destroys the shock of the original's conclusion. I strongly oppose the tendency film writers have of trying to better a literary masterpiece. Sadly, this is a case in point. Apart from this unforgivable liberty, the film is a tremendous tour-de-force which I strongly recommend.

Clean up the act, please
1 of 1 found this helpful An engaging story that touches the heart and teaches an important lesson; brilliant performances, particularly that of Vanessa Redgrave and Trevor Morgan who plays the part of the young protagonist, James; utterly ruined by foul language, blasphemy and references to drug addiction all of which are totally unnecessary to the development of the plot. Remove the filth and this film would deserve five stars plus.
