The whistle is whimsical, but somewhat of an impediment to use.
It's the sort of thing that is on the stove every day, so it's worth paying a bit extra. My old kettle was pretty dreary. Having to remove the whistle to pour is somewhat annoying, but as we know of Michael Graves, form has almost nothing to do with function. Just consider the Portland Building - pretty on the outside, but useless once you enter the front door.
