Best camera to date! (for me ;-) )
3 of 3 found this helpful This camera won't make you into a better photographer, however... if you want to take your photo skills to the next level, this might be a tool for you. Coming from the original A7 with a kit lens, bought my first 35mm prime after 2 years getting good feedback from my clients and friends. I realized that I was looking for a portrait, architecture, landscape, street -oriented camera. Yes, I do video on occasion, but never ever to the extend that I started looking for the S-series or a GH4/5 as my next body.
On the plus side, especially compared to the original A7, amazing dynamic depth, lots of pixels, better physical size and body materials. The AF is just amazing(!) and when using native glass, it's really, really fast. I got the 35,24-70,70-200 native glass and a Samyang 14mm FE, and the body matches their performance great. Also on the plus side, the A7's in general can take a beating, no need for white gloves or worrying if you happen to bump things while in transit or on a shoot.
On the negative side, you'll be burning through batteries like there is no tomorrow, but they don't take up much space when on the go, so no real problem. I usually spend about 2 batteries on a typical 700 exposure wedding shoot. Could have used a second card slot for backup, but so far never lost a card in-camera (fingers crossed). The native glass is still a bit to expensive compared to Nikon, Canon and the rest, but still, the Zeiss lenses are really performers.

Doesn't fit
Received the unit, came nicely packaged. But to my disappointment I soon realised that it didn't fit the screen of the A7rii as advertised. The glass piece is just a couple of millimeters to wide, causing it to overlap the edges, which then causes a dark/ bubbly vignette around the display.
If only the glass piece was more exactly cut to actually fit a A7rii, then from a glass quality standpoint, I'm sure it would be just great.

Very compact, very sturdy!
This is my first Zomei product ever purchased, and I was a bit "openminded" towards what to expect in terms of build quality. But, I must admit that the build quality is just great! Nice and smooth operation of the legs and the ball head. No mysterious rattling or milling dust left making squeaky sounds when tightening the legs.
It stands very firm fully extended, and the ball head easily locks and holds my A7rii, with battery grip and 70-200 telezoom without a hint of budging. And remember, this is a travel tripod, so it's light weight thanks to the carbon fibre legs may counter balanced when tilting a top-heavy camera body/setup. There's a sturdy self retracting hook at the bottom of the center pole that you can hang our camera bag or similar onto.
Transforming one of the legs and center column into a monopod works just great, however, in order to attach the two parts, you need to remove the carrying hook and replacing it with a 1/4" bolt/screw. Easy enough, only adds 30 seconds or so to the operation, the tricks is though to remember brining that screw/bolt with you in the field.
All in all, a great price/performance product!
