Fresh is best
You need a steady hand, a clean surface and a plan to apply - use a few feet of the material to see how it works before starting out. I’ve used this product before with excellent results. So far it’s stuck tight where I put it, hasn’t shrunk in the heat and has not faded in the sun after 5 years.

Reliable coils.
I purchased new ones to replace an identical pair that had been in use about 30 years in a dual plugged 90k 77R100RS BMW. Apparently it was not necessary but I feel better now. Meter reading differences were insignificant.
