It blocks the stove pipe from radiating heat! I'm using them to keep the mantel cool because it's much cooler where they are

It blocks the heat from radiating out of my stove pipe! I'm using it to keep my mantel cool. All you have to do if you are not sure is put your hand in front of them and then in front of the pipe and the difference is major - the stove pipe is radiating tons of heat, but where these things are you can barely feel the heat!
