Get one of these if you are using a cannister filter!
I am using it with my Eheim 2034 and really like this for my 20 gallon tank. I had to do a little swapping to get it to work with the skinny tubing with the Eheim but putting the slotted end on the rigid piece of tubing and sliding that into the internal plastic pieces works well.
The prefilter is exactly the size I needed for this small tank and I would not run a tank with a cannister filter without one. I had a 120 gallon tank and used a block of coarse filter foam that was 6x6x18 as a prefilter - it REALLY reduced the amount of filter maintenance I needed to do. I went from weekly filter changes to 1x per month!
