Interesting and thoroughly researched
Dr. Bynum's book is thoroughly and carefully researched, factual, and engaging in its examination of the issues and background of this time period - especially in relation to Jones County, Mississippi - and how these factors affected the lives of the different groups of people (rich/poor, black/white, free/slave). For me, it is doubly interesting in that some of the people discussed in this book are ancestors of mine, and it gave me additional information and insight into their lives.
