Just get the Energy
There is a strange clinking/knocking sound when reeling which will not go away. For clarity, it clicks/knocks once or twice per revolution of the bail. The drag also has a loud increase in noise when engaged which is difficult to describe. Metal on metal drag noise that increases and decreases in sound under constant pressure. Never had a reel do this before, and I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out. The reel, itself, is decent, but I have no idea why, other than the cork handle, this reel is more expensive than the Energy/S3. I own several Accurists and Energy S3 reels in 2500/3000 size as I use them in the surf fishing for Corbina, Spotfin Croaker, Yellowfin Croaker, Surf Perch, and the occasional halibut several days a week here in San Diego. Those reels are fantastic for the money and survive the surf conditions for a season or 2 each under heavy use. This reel is destined for the trash bin inside of a month at this point. It is easy to clean/take apart, which is the beauty of the Quantum reels for my use, but I am unfortunately disappointed in this model.
