"The Mikado"--Stunning Perforrnance and Relevant Socio-political Commentary
As a long-time fan of Gilbert & Sullivan, whose operettas I have used in courses as supplements to intellectual history, I have always found useful commentary. This is particularly the case with "The Mikado." But I have also heard and have had versions of the operetta which did not include Martyn Greene who, in my opinion, is essential to top-notch G&S--and he is on this version of "The Mikado." I highly recommend this version, for its performance quality AND for its social and political commentary.

A Warbling Crow for the Initiated (or Semi)
This is a truly special field guide to the mystery birds of a commendable imagination. A fun read for all those interested in birds and at least somewhat knowledgeable and at ease with the (boring?) birding guides of various quality. Learn about the Great-toed Clapboard Pecker, everyone's favorite woodpecker, and the Warbling Cormorant and others as complicated. Presents the reader with a pause before, during, or after her/his serious search for feathered creatures.

Original Cast at its Original Best
The CD is a fine substitute for the original vinyl recording. As far as I can determine, it is true to the original (although this is less significant in the case of musical theater than other forms of music). The condition of the recording is excellent.
