Disappointing to say the least
1 of 1 found this helpful I purchased this unit simply to play back MP3 music, initially it looks like a superb product, sadly as you gradually progress (or not) you discover endless problems. I usually find most solutions to problems on the Internet, however I became only more aware of all the problems people are experiencing with this product.
I would advise you to read as many reviews as possible before you buy this. There are many VASTLY cheaper units available by other manufacturers. I would not pay more than £200 for the EVA and also make sure it includes the 500 gb HDD or else you will have to spend a further £40 on a SATA HDD. Note that the EVA9150 should include the HDD but the cheaper EVA9100 does NOT.
Initially I had MAJOR problems getting this to work on my network. After two days of work (forget the massive manual included as a pdf, it's quite useless once you break it down and understand what it's actually telling you) I discovered that my Firewall (AVG) was blocking the EVA. Netgear specify port settings to disable in your firewall, however, remember that the majority of software providers have simplified their user interface such that you cannot do this. You really need to have significant network experience to use this product. Although I managed to set AVG up for use on a network, it still blocks the connection and the EVA remains invisible in "My Computer". You can only communicate via their software "Netgear Entertainer Elite", which is rather basic and tedious.
I also experienced serious problems setting up the wireless connection, on a different PC. I use a different firewall on my laptop so tried setting the EVA up on that. The network would not work hard-wired or wireless. Be warned - I have a lot of PC experience and build PC's. You need to have considerable experience of networking to get this unit to work, unless you are very lucky!
If you intend to use the EVA as a stand alone unit (as I did) that is without the use of a network, this is NOT for you. All the problems I experienced are directly related to the EVA as "Stand Alone" and not the effects of external equipment so, Netgear, don't try to blame others for your bad design!
Once you get the unit running, the entire interface is very basic and "tedious". If you have used Windows Media Player you will be shocked by this VERY primitive interface (all made worse by the fact that WMP is FREE). WMP is VASTLY superior to this device, in fact you would be far better using a cheap laptop (with adequate drive space or external USB HDD) running WMP and using audio / line out to your music audio system.
I eventually loaded 138 mb of my riped MP3 music library (perfectly organised by WMP) and be warned, Netgear "processes" these files, it took over fourteen hours to load 138 mb onto the internal HDD. I would totally forget using this unit to play back video, although the internal drive capacity cannot exceed 1Tb so quite useless for a large video collection anyway.
Regarding playback of music, this unit DOES NOT PLAY TRACKS BACK IN A SEAMLESS MANNER. If your ripped music tracks contain mixes, that is on a CD player, when playing the CD you can't hear where the track changes (smooth transition) when you play back on the EVA there is a horrible break or pause in playback, totally destroying the recorded transition or change-over of track. This is horrible and totally spoils the playback, it's better to just play the CD'S on your £25 CD player?

Larger tube size than other makes yet cheaper
Seems to be the best value price and quantity compared to all the other makes I could find online. It's a decent size tube and yet still cheaper than others that are smaller sizes.
It's easy to apply being thinner than human toothpaste and so helps a speedy brushing if your pet isn't so keen. It is meat flavoured, which helps, my dog sees to like the taste.

Outstanding quality & value...
1 of 1 found this helpful Amazing little kit, superb value for such a good quality pcb and all components. You need to be able to identify the components and polarity so unless you into electronics pcb assembly this is not for you. There are many resistor value charts online if you can't read the colour codes but really if your considering buying this you need to know about electronics.
I didn't expect much from this to be honest, but it actually sounds really good. It's only a buffer stage and has little gain. it's really designed to give the "tube sound" by inserting it in your audio path before amplification to drive speakers or headphones.
I would increase the voltage rating of the C1 to 8 (35v supplied) to 45v wvdc which give a little headroom, even with a 12v input they are running on their limit.
Remember this MUST use 12 VAC input ad NOT 12DC as all power adaptors on the internet supply. This circuit cannot work from a DC input, so you need a 12 volt transformer to power it with the required AC input.
So good I had to buy another one as I often find a use for such things for friends!
