Rancid smell

What initially turns me off is the product has a rancid smell. I’m trying to continue to use the product because I like the way my skin feels after I use it. My skin is so thirsty that it just soaks it up. The smell does dissipate after applying to skin. I would like to know if this is normal. I’m afraid to use it near my eyes. I did buy a pharmaceutical brand of castor oil to use in my eyes. Thank you
